Our lab recently published a review article in Biomacromolecules entitled “Stimuli-Responsive Substrates to Control the Immunomodulatory Potential of Stromal Cells.” In it, we highlight how culturing on stimuli-responsive materials can modify the secretome of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), altering their ability to regulate immune activity. Having the ability to tune MSC secretions using a variety of stimuli creates exciting possibilities for use of MSCs as therapeutics. Check out the article here!

Our lab’s latest manuscript is available in Macromolecular Bioscience! In it, we use peptoid crosslinkers to show that hydrogel stiffness has significant impacts on immunoregulation by human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSCs). Our findings have intriguing implications for future development of hMSC-based therapeutics. Check it out here!

Check out our recent collaborative work with Prof. Tania Betancourt’s group at Texas State! We incorporated PEDOT nanoparticles into dynamic covalent gels for photothermal modulation. This strategy enables on-demand release of encapsulated therapeutics.
This collaboration was facilitated by the NSF PREM CIMA, a partner of our UT Austin MRSEC. The goal of the PREM is to enhance diversity in materials research and education through collaborative research.
